Gift Aid: Boost Your Donation by 25%
UK taxpayers can increase the value of their donations by 25% at no extra cost through Gift Aid.
Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that allows charities like Mercy Direct to claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate. It’s a simple way to make your donation go further at no additional cost to you.
When you donate and select the Gift Aid option, we can claim the tax you’ve already paid on that donation from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).
For example, if you donate £20, we can claim an extra £5 from the government, making your donation worth £25 in total.

Do I need to complete a Gift Aid declaration for every donation?
No, once you've completed a Gift Aid declaration, it remains valid for all future donations you make to Mercy Direct, unless your tax status changes or you wish to cancel it.
What if I'm a higher rate taxpayer?
If you pay higher rate tax, you can claim the difference between the higher rate and basic rate on your donation. You can do this through your Self Assessment tax return or by contacting HMRC.
Can I claim Gift Aid on donations made on behalf of someone else?
No, you can only claim Gift Aid on donations of your own money. If you're collecting money from friends or family, they would need to make their own Gift Aid declarations.
What if my tax status changes?
If you stop paying enough tax to cover the Gift Aid claimed on your donations, you should notify us to cancel your Gift Aid declaration.
Simply tick the Gift Aid box when making your next donation to increase its value by 25%.
